Principal’s Message:

As we begin April with spring break, I am amazed that we only have 10 weeks of school left in this school year. I want to give a big thank you to our families and students for an excellent school year. Our students’ behavior is once again stellar. Our parent support is as positive as ever, and our teachers are working hard to finish the year strong. My review of all of our students’ report cards shows me how dedicated we all are to making Barker a top academic school.

In an effort to remain competitive when it comes to technology in the classroom, we have purchased two more Chromebook charging carts and 62 new Chromebooks. This will give a one to one student/Chromebooks in the upper grades (4-6). Grades two and three share two Chromebook carts/Chromebooks, and kinder and 1st grade have access to iPads. Our two new Chromebook carts/Chromebooks will be available for student and teacher use in the fall.

Secretary’s Day:

Wednesday, April 24th is Secretary’s Day. At Barker School, we have a wonderful group of ladies who do an excellent job of running the office, taking care of sick and injured students, and keeping parents up to date and informed about the latest school news. Thank you to our terrific office staff for the excellent job that they do each and every day!

California State Test:

We are once again required to administer our yearly state academic test to all 3rd – 6th grade students. We refer to this test as the CAASPP test (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress). With the addition of Chrome Books, the majority of our students will be able to take this test in their classrooms. We will be testing during the month of May.

PTA Father/Daughter Night:

After having another successful PTA mother/son night, we are now scheduling our father/daughter night. Mark your calendars for this event on Friday, May 3. This should be a great night of fun for all.

Spring Recess:

Please be aware that the Garden Grove Unified School District has scheduled spring recess from April 1st – 5th. School will resume on Monday, April 8th.

Sixth Grade Outdoor Science School:

Our sixth grade students will once again attend camp at High Trails Outdoor Science School’s Oakes camp site. This campsite is located at the 7,000 foot level of the San Bernardino Mountains. Our sixth grade students will be at camp from April 15 – 19.

GGUSD Annual Strategic Plan Survey:

Each year our school district conducts a survey of all stakeholders (teachers, students, parents, and community members) to help guide us in providing a learning environment that benefits all students. Our district is asking for parent input. The survey window for parents is from March 25 to June 14. If you would like to express your opinion on the job we are doing please visit:
